A successful LED conversion in industry and commerce requires more than just replacing luminaires. Professional lighting design and the selection of suitable LED luminaires according to these criteria are crucial:
- Light distribution: Choose the right light control for the application (e.g., narrow beam instead of wide beam in narrow aisles)
- Glare (UGR): UGR < 22 for fatigue-free vision at workplaces
- Energy efficiency (lm/W): > 150 lm/W for maximum electricity cost savings
- Color rendering (Ra): Ra > 90 for true-to-life color rendering in critical areas
- Robustness (IP/IK): Sufficient protection (e.g., IP65/IK08) for environmental conditions
- Intelligent control: Dimmable luminaires with interfaces for automatic, demand-driven control and additional energy savings
A comprehensive lighting concept for commercial businesses includes:
- Detailed analysis of the existing lighting situation
- Individual planning
- Tailor-made product selection of energy-efficient LED luminaires
- Economic efficiency calculation with amortization analysis
- Obtaining and comparing quotes for LED conversion
- Accompanying the implementation
- Objectivity & neutral advice

For the conversion to LED lighting in non-residential buildings, the Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings – Individual Measures (BEG EM) is particularly available. This offers:
- Grant: A direct, non-repayable investment grant of 15% of your eligible expenses.
- Cost limit: Eligible expenses are limited to €500 per m² of net floor area.
- Low minimum investment: Funding is possible for investment volumes as low as €300 (gross).
Yes, the creation of a lighting concept is funded!
In many funding programs – such as the Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings (BEG) – not only material and installation costs, but also eligible planning services are included.
Funding amount:
- The funding rate is 50% of the eligible expenses.
- Eligible expenses are capped at a maximum of 5 euros per square meter of net floor area and a total maximum of 20,000 euros.
- Example: For a hall with 2,000 m² NFA, the maximum funding for planning is: 2,000 m² * €5/m² * 50% = €5,000.
Here are the most important steps at a glance:
Step 1: Obtain quotes
Step 2: Create a technical project description
Step 3: Submit funding application before commissioning
Step 4: Commission and carry out the measure
Step 5: Submit proof of use
Step 6: Review & payment by the approval authority
Yes – leased LED lighting can also be eligible for funding.
Since the update of the funding conditions, the following applies:
A lease-purchase of LED lighting is eligible for funding, even if the installment payments extend beyond the approval period.
It is important that the application was submitted from January 1, 2024.
For LED funding to be granted, the following points must be observed:
-
Invoices for LED lighting must be paid non-cash (e.g., by bank transfer).
-
Bank statements or comparable documents, to be kept or submitted by the applicant, serve as proof of payment.
-
Alternatively, an installment payment agreement is possible. This must explicitly refer to the eligible LED invoice.
